Student Chapter Feature: Converse University

By Meirav Goldhour, Interior Design Program director

During the spring of 2021, interior design students at Converse University, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, partnered with Atomic Beer Lab, a new and upcoming brewery taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The students were divided into teams of two and developed a full scope of technical and presentational drawings. The students followed the client's program that included a bar, lounge seating, a lab, and a visible brewhouse system where customers can see into the process of beer-making. In addition, per the client's request, the students included a hops garden and an outdoor recreation area for events and live music.

Students used a combination of hand drawings and advanced technology software as a communication tool, such as AutoCAD, Photoshop, Revit, and Enscape to create photo-realistic renderings. With the combination of multiple design software, students could create a vivid and life-like experience for the client.

At the time, students were learning to use some of the advanced Adobe software. They composed a presentational video highlighting walk-throughs using Revit and Enscape, combined with tools from Adobe Premiere and After Effects. The students presented their concepts over the Zoom platform to the Atomic Beer Lab partners and provided them with creative and sophisticated designs to choose from for their future Brewery.
