If an effort to better familiarize the membership with our volunteer leaders or our organization, we are profiling, on this page, the Design Community (DC) Chairs of ASID Carolinas.  The Carolinas Chapter has eight Design Communities with DC chairs responsible for the programming in their area.  The ASID leadership year runs from October 1 – September 30.

Coastal Carolinas Design Community

Eastern Design Community

Prior to moving to North Carolina a couple of year ago, I was in San Diego where I had a practice with a majority residential and some commercial. I started teaching at my alma matter in 2002, in California, first as an adjunct and then I added more classes during the recession in 2009.  I found out that teaching was a calling and really enjoying it.

What certifications do you hold?
NCIDQ, LEED, WELL, WWYW etc... NCIDQ, LEED GA

How many years have you been a member of ASID?
I have been a member for over 30 years.

What is your favorite thing about ASID?
Camaraderie

How can members get involved with your design community and/or small volunteer opportunities?
Members can help by offering venues, helping during events, sharing your talents with educational content for meeting, and helping recruit members.

Eastern Design Community

As an interior designer at DeMartino Building Corporation, I work primarily on residential projects, from design and specification to overseeing crews and working closely with our clients. We do anything from whole house remodels to pool houses and outdoor living. Every day is different!

Favorite thing about ASID.
I love the resource that it provides to me: from networking and the sheer amount of information I can glean from the website to all of the webinars and community design outreach programs.  Through membership, I have learned a great deal and have had many opportunities that I would not have had otherwise. I am very grateful for this organization and the great members! 

How can members can get involved with your design community and/or small volunteer opportunities?
Isabelle Odjaghian (my co-chair) and I would be happy to have anyone assist with programs in our area and we are always welcoming ideas. We hope to see you at one of our upcoming, in-person events.

I assist in composing tile projects and building materials in both commercial and residential projects. I work with retail customers and industry pros alike. Currently, I am working with a local designer, Anne Taylor Interiors, on her personal home in Matthews.

I have been a member of ASID for five Years.

What is your favorite thing about ASID?
I love our community and network of industry professionals dedicated to the impact design has on our day-to-day lives.

Members can providing CEU courses to keep everyone informed and up-to-date on new products, material codes, and best practices.

Midlands Design Community

Rebecca B. Compton, ASID, CKD, NCIDQ

Rebecca has primarily worked on residential projects throughout her 37-year career, which includes kitchen and bath design and custom cabinetry.  She especially enjoys planning and working with her contractors on those remodeling projects.  Custom window treatments, blinds, shades, and shutters are another part of her design business, in addition to consultations for updates in the home, or placing and installing furniture, art, and accessories after a move.

How long have you been a member of ASID?
I have been a member since 1980.

What are your favorite things about being a member of ASID?
My favorite things are friendships developed, and all the learning opportunities.

What is your Inspiration?
I am inspired by colors and textures I see in nature and through my travels.

How many years have you been a member or ASID?
I have been a professional member for 35 years, including past membership in the West Palm Beach, Los Angeles, and Chicago chapters.

What is your favorite thing about ASID?
I value the support of, and advancement of, the interior design profession.

What should we know about the Triad DC?
Currently, programs for the Triad community will be virtual.

I love getting to know other designers and having a community of support within that group.
