Lighting Controls as a Component of Interior Design Lighting controls allow homeowners to control lights, ceiling fans and small appliances from anywhere in the home, without the need for special wiring or expensive master controllers. They can be integrated into a home for single-room, multi-room or whole house systems. The intent of this course is to discuss the role of lighting in design, and more specifically how lighting controls can impact the lives of occupants and performance of the home, including enhanced energy efficiency. Discuss lighting; including different forms, uses and types, as well as qualities of lighting that play an important role in design and function. (15 minutes) Examine lighting controls, including various types, technologies, and design options available, and how they can impact the lives of occupants and performance of the home. (20 minutes) Describe how to specify and plan for the installation of lighting controls for single-room, multi-room, and whole house systems. (15 minutes) Define how proper use of lighting controls can enhance energy efficiency and contribute to sustainability goals. (10 minutes)
