2022 Spring Meeting Highlights

ASID Carolinas held the 2022 Spring Meeting on March 14-19 and organized a blend of virtual CEU sessions and an in-person Student Day. The four virtual lunchtime educational sessions were well attended with 30 – 40 attendees typically present. Our speakers and presenters included Kristin Webster, Vice President, Architectural Veneers International; Andy Marchese, Head of Technical Support & Education, Colorbeam Lighting; Rob Morgenstern, Vice President of Sales, Unika Vaev; and Susan Inglis, Executive Director, Sustainable Furnishings Council.

On Saturday, March 19, about 30 students and professionals gathered at Camp North End in Charlotte, NC, for the 2022 Student Day event! This was the first in-person Student Day event since early 2019. Attendees heard experiences and insights into the interior design industry from panelists Brittani Anderson, Allied ASID, J. Banks Design Group; Amina Guyon, ASID Carolinas Student Representative to the Board (moderator); Shane Jones, Allied ASID, Sherwin-Williams; and Tim Schelfe, FASID, CID, BSB Design.

During the networking lunch (thank you to our Spring Meeting lunch sponsor Sherwin-Williams!), ASID Carolinas’ Advocacy Co-Chairs Susan Carson, Allied ASID, and Emmy Williams, ASID, presented important information about the new NC Interior Design Law. Professional Development Director Hannah Wiser, Allied ASID, provided tips and tricks for creating the perfect portfolio and then had students break out into small groups to get feedback from professionals.

The fun-filled day concluded with the announcement of the 2022 Otto Zenke Student Design Winners. Congratulations to:

  • First Place Winner: Lillie Bell, Appalachian State University
  • Second Place Winner: Keilyn O’Gara, Appalachian State University
  • Third Place Winner: Andrea Farrow, Wake Technical Community College
